Rug Description

Turkish rug Hereke silk, Imperial Anatolian manufacture, early 20th century: a textile paradise of calligraphic mastery. A spectacular example of a silk Hereke, hand-knotted with an extremely high knot density that allows for a level of detail comparable to a fine painting. This masterpiece clearly draws inspiration from the scholarly and refined Kum Kapı style, incorporating Arabic inscriptions within elegant cartouches, elevating the rug to a literary and spiritual artwork. The prayer structure is defined by a rounded niche (mihrab), a softer and more sophisticated formal variation compared to the traditional pointed Anatolian or Caucasian arches.

The chromatic palette is exceptionally powerful: the field is dominated by a deep, saturated red, symbolizing vitality and warmth, while the borders and floral details play with shades of lapis and cobalt blue. Within the design, a vision of Eden unfolds: small, vibrantly colored birds dwell among flowering branches and arboreal scrolls, evoking a paradisiacal garden of peace and beauty. The silk used is of the highest quality, reflecting light and shifting tones depending on the viewing angle, lending the artifact an almost ethereal glow.

Condition: Excellent. The integrity of the silk and the brilliance of the pigments bear witness to the museum-quality nature of this piece, preserved at the Mollaian Rugs Gallery.

Dimensions & Interior Design Advice: 161 × 117 cm. A precious format, ideal for display as a centerpiece in an Oriental art collection or to enhance the walls of highly prestigious rooms. A true investment in pure art for those seeking the pinnacle of Anatolian silk weaving.
