This is an Antique Persian Bakshaish Kalleh Carpet, ca 1900. In this antique Bakhshaish carpet , we can find a very common repeat field design consisting of a flower centred in a “diamond”with curving lanceolate leaves located outside the diamond and parallel on each side. The lanceolate leaves often have the appareance of a fish, so in the market this design is called also “fish” or “mahi” pattern. Also the border bring the herat or samovar motif often called also Turtle border due to the shape of the motif that suggests the shell of a Turtle. In this amazing Bakhshaish we can appreciate the soberty of the style, the elegance of the balanced design and the superb combination of colours and pattern proportion.
