Rug Description

Antique Indian Agra Rug, 1900-1920 ca. An Indian Agra carpet, in full Ottoman decorative style. Agra, the city home to the famous Taj Mahal mausoleum, has been very prolific in the creation of hand-knotted carpets. In this truly unusual carpet, we find clear references to Turkish carpets attributed to the Ghiordes style. This splendid carpet, very rich in the decoration that contains the area marked by the 3 niches on a ruby red background, is particularly delicate and even most worked; the sand color of the background decorated in red and pink, appear decidedly well combined, highlighting the toothed leaf motifs and the bundle of clouds. The vermilion red hosts three niches and very detailed and well-proportioned flower bouquets offering an excellent visual effect. The carpet is in excellent condition and certainly represents an unusual feature in the panorama of carpets made in India in Ottoman Turkish style. Explore our collection of antique Indian rugs.
