A 17th century Transylvania rug.
The soft rust-red with triple prayer niche. Elegant columns supporting mihrab above with polychrome hooked vine, hooked palmettes and angular floral and leafy sprays. In soft rust border of bold shaper floral panels. Between hooked motif and open rosette panel stripes. Great example for this type, seldom found in the market. Colours are very well balanced and beautifully drawn design. This rug has areas of wear, due to use and age. Selvages fraying. Ends with short fringes, touches of loss on guard stripe. Scattered old repairs. Despite imperfections, this rug is in good usable condition. Very attractive and sought type on the market.
