Rug Description

Antique Chinese Rug Imperial, 19th century: a silk microcosm of myth, nature, and spiritual protection. This artifact is a masterpiece of profound symbolic depth, where every detail serves as a scholarly and silent blessing. The field, rendered in an ethereal jade green, hosts an iconographic universe of rare serenity. At its heart reigns the Fu Dog (or Lion Fou), the benevolent guardian of the threshold and symbol of wisdom, flanked by a resting horse, emblem of nobility and hard-won peace. The scene is populated by figures from the pastoral and spiritual repertoire: the deer, messenger of longevity; the bat, bringer of happiness; and the butterfly, symbol of joy and regeneration.

Stylized clouds float between the subjects, tethering the earth to the sky in a state of meditative suspension. The structure is fortified by crenelated borders playing with positive and negative space, where jade meets the grounded strength of brick red. At the corners, Shou symbols (longevity) seal the rug like imperial stamps, offering metaphysical protection to its surroundings. The silk, with its inherent luster, elevates these symbols, making the design vibrant and shifting under the light.
