Rug Description

Antique Caucasian Karabakh (Qarabag). 1880-1900. A very rare antique Karabakh carpet in a small format, probably used as a saddle carpet, during local ceremonies. The knotted format is an octagon that is completed in the square shape with areas woven in kilim technique. In this antique Karabagh carpet, the herati or mahi motif prevails on the midnight blue background and on the central medallion on a red background. The colours, warm, delicate and at the same time lively, cheerfully punctuate the entire background. Of particular and marked beauty are the tones of yellow that illuminate the border and the “mahi” motifs in the background. A small masterpiece, this antique Karabakh carpet, in a rare format with soft and silky wools in mint condition. A true Caucasian collector’s carpet of ceremonial use to choose without hesitation from the Mollaian Rugs collection!
