Rug Description
This is an antique Ningxia rug woven in north Central China during the first quarter of the 20th century circa 1920. The field design is made up of five dragons four in each of the corners and one in the center surrounded by cloud motifs creating a center medallion that is flanked by traditional Chinese temples. A unique feature in the field is its background color which is a gray color that almost looks like a pale purple which is extremely unique and rare. The main border is comprised of repeating zigzag line motifs with alternating colors which represent the clouds and is a very sought-after border design. This rug is in overall almost perfect condition with a few areas of slightly lower pile and has been professionally washed.
