Rug Description

Antique Caucasian Shirvan, 1880-1900. A beautiful antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet on a brick red background. The design of this antique Shirvan carpet is very stylized, very reminiscent of the graphic style of other Caucasian carpets, in particular the Talish. The multicolored rosettes are spaced out on the background, framing the strong stylized eagle or “ray sun” motifs arranged longitudinally on the background. The rest of the background is completed by small rosette filling motifs and fertility motifs. The borders of this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet are very defined and precise; the central one on an ivory background bears the eagle’s beak motif in a harmonious succession of colours. The state of conservation of this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet is excellent, the iconic design fully embodies the archaic style of Caucasian tribal and village carpets.

So, apart from what is visible on the presented photos, it should be noted that the rugs are professionally cleaned, and where necessary, the Selvages/Sides and Ends/Fringes have been secured.
