Rug Description

Antique Azerbaijani Seycohor (Zeikhur) Rug. 1880 ca. Seychour (Zeikhur) carpets are generally classified into two productions: one with a rose motif, using the “French” decorative style, and one with a “cross” motif. The cross motif is better known as “St. Andrew’s cross”. In this antique Azeri carpet, Seychour (Zeikhur), we can appreciate the natural wool colored background, decorated with a “St. Andrew’s cross” motif. These motifs are particularly defined thanks to the fineness of the knotting, the excellent quality of the wool and due to the chromatic balance, which highlights its features, details and overall graphic effect. The borders of this antique Seychour carpet (Zeikhur) are varied in style and rich in color combinations: a small rosette border, succeeded by one in brick red with a carnation motif. The border on a black background in Kufic style is very defined and precise, follow border in the stylized “herati” and stylish and compact “medacyl” style. Very rare and perfectly preserved in the Mollaian Rugs collection.
