Rug Description
Antique Sarouk Farahan rug, late 19th century: stylistic rigor and chromatic preciousness. A rare and sophisticated example of Farahan craftsmanship, hand-knotted in the Arak region during the final quarter of the 19th century. This rug stands out for its “all-over Boteh” design, repeated with masterful precision across the central field. The Boteh motif is interpreted here with a stylized grace that lends the artifact a tone of understated nobility and a hypnotic visual rhythm.
The wool quality is legendary for the finest Farahans: exceptionally fine, lustrous, and compact “Kurk” wool, allowing for near-calligraphic definition. The chromatic palette showcases masterful dyeing, with a deep indigo blue field highlighting the rust-red and ivory Boteh motifs. A standout feature is the main border: instead of common patterns, it features refined stylized floral motifs framed within cartouche-like structures, expertly highlighted by sharp chromatic contrasts. This provides the border with an architectural rigor and an elegance of clear scholarly origin.
Condition: Excellent. The integrity of the pile and the structural compactness bear witness to the superior quality of this artifact, meticulously preserved at the Mollaian Rugs Gallery.
Dimensions & Interior Design Advice: 197 × 125 cm. A perfect format for enhancing a prestigious study or a refined living area. Thanks to the distinctive border design and superior materials, this Farahan is a true textile art investment for collectors seeking Persian excellence and uniqueness.
