Rug Description

This is a Sarouk Farahan horse cover from central Persia and it was woven circa 1880.  This horse cover has a navy blue open field design decorated with vases full of flowers and the corners of the field have the famous herati motif.  Light rust hooked and linked herati pattern spandrels. In light pistachio-green border of angular flowering g vine between running-dog stripes. Outer barber-pole stripes. This rare collectible rug is in perfect condition and has been woven on a cotton foundation with 100% will pile. Very good example for this type although unusual as this type is usually associated with Senneh weave. These horse cover are rare examples of tribal artwork that can be used as a piece of art to decorate homes with or add to any rug collection. Ends, one with original kilim and other with short fringes, secured. Selvages secured. Attractive and sought after collectors piece.
