Kilim Description

Bessarabian Kilim, East European manufacture, early 20th century: a rare nocturnal garden of decorative elegance. This exceptional Kilim represents the perfect synthesis between the aristocratic aesthetics of Western Europe and the textile traditions of the Black Sea region. Bessarabian weavings are world-renowned for transposing the sumptuous floral patterns of Savonnerie and Aubusson rugs from the Louis XVI and Imperial eras into a flat-weave (kilim) technique. The result is a work of incredible modernity, where French rigor is filtered through a vibrant and authentic chromatic sensibility.

The composition unfolds across a sophisticated black field, a bold and refined choice that acts as a dramatic stage, highlighting the luminosity of the floral motifs through sharp contrast. Large bouquets of roses, peonies, and acanthus leaves, rendered with naturalistic flair and near-three-dimensional depth, are harmoniously arranged across the field, evoking the grace of European botanical gardens.
