Rug Description

Antique Persian Farahan Runner, ca 1900-1920. An extraordinary antique Persian Farahan carpet runner from the early XX century. On midnight blue, the background is dominated by four medallions with a hooked profile joined by other small medallions of the same shape. The inside of the medallions is decorated with floral motifs on a coral red background. The decorative composition is very interesting and follows more precisely the will of the knotter rather than the canonical modularity that we notice on other types of carpet runners. In fact, we can appreciate two rich bouquets on the terminal part of the background together with the typical Samovari “jugs”; Unusually we find some stylized motifs, symmetrically arranged on the sides of a medallion, decorating only a portion of the background. In this magnificent antique Farahan carpet, the attention to detail and the chromatic choice make the decorative composition very clear and defined, enriched by the meticulous workmanship of the borders. The counter-edges, medacyl, are well arranged and carefully modulated around the entire perimeter, highlighting the contrasts elegantly. The main border, on an ivory background, is delightfully decorated with floral motifs and small botehs. Excellent state of conservation.
