Rug Description

Antique Persian Bakshaish Gallery Carpet, 19th century. A Bakshaish carpet, truly fascinating and full of decidedly sophisticated decorative motifs for this manufacture. The field of this Bakhshaish, on cobalt blue tones, alternates in shades of the same tone, (abrash) until reaching an ash-blue color, giving movement and lightness to the strong and very defined decoration both in the motifs present in the background and in the complex borders. Two rich medallions surrounded by ram’s horn motifs at the ends and sides, are further enhanced by small square-shaped motifs, in the center of the carpet and close to the corners. The great quality of this Bakhshaish carpet is easily verifiable, not only for the complexity of the designs inside the medallions, but above all for its stylistic and chromatic refinement, present on all the borders, enriched by delightful cartouches on an ivory background. The large dimensions and format of this Bakhshaish allow us once again to perceive the majesty of these precious carpets made exclusively for important environments and people. This Bakhashaish has a very fine and compact knot and its conservation is decidedly excellent. It can coexist with both classic and modern environments. A truly timeless carpet.
