Rug Description
Pair of Isfahan rugs signed Akbarof, silk warps: the architecture of the Shah Mosque captured in a textile masterpiece. This is an artistic achievement of museum-grade importance. This superb pair of Isfahan rugs represents the pinnacle of technical and artistic refinement in Central Persia. Featuring pure silk warps, which allow for an incredibly high knot density, these artifacts bear the prestigious signature of Akbarof, the master weaver who defined the standards of excellence for Isfahan manufacture in the 20th century.
The centerpiece of the composition is the spectacular “Gombadi” (dome) motif: a hypnotic design directly inspired by the celestial geometries of the dome of the Shah Mosque (Masjid-e-Shah) in Isfahan. The central part of the field is not merely a medallion, but a perspective representation of the dome itself. Through a masterful and highly refined use of chromatic shading, the center of the dome is extraordinarily defined, creating an effect of depth and light that seems to emanate from the pile.
The architecture of the field is complemented by a rare and sophisticated stylistic detail: the dome is flanked exclusively on the long sides by exquisite spiral decorations featuring the “Asslimi” motif. These sinuous and elegant vines frame the heart of the rug, leading the eye toward the infinite geometric center of the dome. The millimetric precision of every petal and scroll testifies to a level of craftsmanship that only the Akbarof workshop could guarantee.
Condition: Impeccable. The pair is perfectly matched in tone and preservation, making it a unique find for grand reception rooms. Meticulously preserved at the Mollaian Rugs Gallery.
Dimensions & Interior Design Advice: 385 × 260 cm (Pair). An investment of absolute value, intended for high-prestige residences where the rug is viewed as a monumental work of art.
