Rug Description
Tehran Rug part silk, Persia: a monumental textile masterpiece of museum-grade rarity. This rug represents one of the highest expressions of Persian weaving art. Tehran productions are renowned for maintaining extreme quality standards before nearly vanishing from the market, making pieces of this caliber and condition true antiquarian treasures. Crafted with exceptional materials, including cork wool (the finest and softest part of the fleece) and a structure with rich silk highlights, the rug shines with unparalleled luster and tactile softness.
The composition is dominated by the “Hunting Design”, a royal iconography dating back to the Safavid dynasty. Against a deep and vibrant red field, a central medallion and corners in sky blue stand out, creating a surprisingly fresh chromatic contrast. The palette is immense: the skillful use of primary and secondary colors in countless shades makes every detail crisp and vital, while maintaining an extraordinary visual lightness despite the decorative density.
The ivory-ground borders are true masterpieces of textile miniature: chiseled with microscopic motifs dedicated to the hunting theme, they grant a new dimensionality to the riders, depicted with anatomical and dynamic precision that feels almost three-dimensional. Each hunting scene is a narrative microcosm, where the struggle between predator and prey is elevated to a symbol of power and nobility.
Condition: Excellent. The clarity of the details and the luster of the silk sections are perfectly preserved, making this rug a unique piece for historical importance and aesthetic impact. Held at the Mollaian Rugs Gallery.
Dimensions & Interior Design Advice: 350 × 240 cm. A monumental size for a piece destined to dominate the most prestigious environments in the world, representing an artistic investment destined to appreciate over time.
