Rug Description

A Large Antique Persian Bijar (Bidjar) Carpet, XIX century. An extraordinary large format antique Persian Bijar carpet from the 19th century still full of energy and unquestionable elegance. The design is composed across the entire surface with the Harshang motif, also called “crab” motif. This motif was used and introduced both in Iran and in the Caucasus between the 18th and 19th centuries, appearing in various variations of antique Bijar carpets and those from Azerbaijan in particular. The midnight blue background is filled all over, with multicolored harshang motifs harmoniously combined with other small palmettes and floral motifs. The yellows, greens and cerulean blues stand out against the “salmon” pink and brick red, always maintaining a perfect balance between proportions, designs and contrasts. This antique Bijar carpet has a splendid main border on a brick red background surrounded by smaller ones on a sky blue background. The chromatic harmony of this antique Bijar carpet certainly places it among the most accurate and genuine productions. The state of conservation is excellent, allowing it to be placed under an important antique table, in front of sofas, always guaranteeing an impeccable effect.
