Textile Description
Italian Textile manufacture, Silk Bargello technique: an explosion of geometries and colors from the Tuscan Baroque. A splendid example of Italian textile art created using the famous Bargello technique, also known as “Flame Stitch.” This style is characterized by the use of vertical stitches of varying lengths that create a modular zig-zag design, generating a nearly hypnotic optical effect of movement and depth. The uniqueness of this piece lies in the use of multicolored silk, which provides an iridescent luster and a material richness superior to traditional wool versions.
The chromatic composition is a masterpiece of balance: a rhythmic sequence of vibrant shades chasing each other in a perfectly modulated flame pattern. The transition between colors is sharp and precise, highlighting a superior level of craftsmanship. Historically, these textiles were destined to upholster exceptionally prestigious furnishings (chairs, screens, or cushions) in the homes of the Italian nobility, serving as a symbol of status and aesthetic refinement.
The allure of Bargello: The name derives from the Bargello Palace in Florence, where 17th-century chairs upholstered in this technique are preserved. It is a design that has never faded, still influencing high fashion and contemporary interior design today due to its geometric modernity.
Condition: Excellent. The silk retains its original brilliance, and the textile structure is intact, meticulously preserved at the Mollaian Rugs Gallery.
Dimensions & Interior Design Advice: 127 × 55 cm. An extremely versatile collector’s piece: perfect for framing as textile art or used as a prestigious runner on an antique console or a modern table to create a contrast of absolute elegance.
