Textile Description
A Pair of Antique Chinese Silk & Metal Textile, 1880 ca.
In these small silk panels, we are faced with one of the most important decorative stylistic expressions on silk embroidery in the world. In this very elegant embroidery, we find various decorative elements with a very specific meaning. In particular, we can see 5 bats of different sizes and arranged differently on the fabric. The 5 bats symbolize the blessing. Two very elaborate 5-clawed dragons fight opposite each other, turning their gaze towards the “flamed pearl” in the centre; this is considered one of the 8 precious things in Confucianism. The “Lingzhi” motif, synonymous with immortality, enriches the decoration. The very interesting Green base, among the most difficult to combine with other shades. Two small masterpieces made with care and extreme precision. Excellent state of conservation. Explore our collection of Chinese textile.
At Mollaian srl we try to do our best, giving a new life to some of antique rugs with minor problems, that may have affected by age. So, apart from what is visible on the presented photos, it should be noted that the rugs are professionally cleaned, and where necessary, the Selvages/Sides and Ends/Fringes have been secured. Upon request, we can provide a complete condition report (including any retouch performed by our restoration team), if it is not already presented down below.
