Rug Description

Antique Caucasian Kuba Rug, Perpedil motif, ca 1890. Rare Caucasian antique Kuba (Quba) carpet, on a red background with ram’s horn motifs derived from Perpedil. The background of this ancient Kuba carpet is detailed by the scalar motif that protects the central area, adorned with ram’s horn motifs and six multicolored guls with a rectangular profile. This internal shaping, almost as if to define portals to access the middle, is finely decorated with tribal motifs of the Azeri Caucasian tradition. The borders of this antique Caucasian Kuba (Quba) carpet are very rich and defined in terms of contrasts and chromatic variety. We can appreciate a precise border in Kufic style, medacyl motifs, and in ivory the one with flowers or an eight-pointed star. The condition of this antique Caucasian Kuba (Quba) carpet is excellent, full pile and with an interesting and unusual decorative graphic composition.
