Antique Caucasian Karabagh (Qarabag), Goradis design rug. XIX Century. Among the carpets made in the Karabagh area, there are some truly unusual and rare ones such as this ancient carpet with a design defined as “goradis”. Goradis, is a small village south of Karabagh and the peculiarity of the carpets knotted there is the all-round decorative style with a staggered and angular comet-shaped motif which could be derived from the boteh symbol. On this Goradis karabagh runner of truly rare proportions, we can appreciate not only the elegance of the color combinations but thanks to them, we can follow the evolution of the design on the background, perfectly balanced in terms of dimensions and proportions. The main border is also very interesting with a stylization of the gul farang floral motif. The state of conservation of this ancient Caucasian Krabagh carpet is excellent.
