Rug Description

Antique Sarouk Farahan rug, Persian manufacture, circa 1890: rare luminosity and decorative mastery. An exceptional specimen of Sarouk Farahan, hand-knotted in the Arak region during the final years of the 19th century. This rug represents a rare and beautiful variation of Farahan production, characterized by a luminous ivory field that lends the artifact an airy and sophisticated elegance. The central field is finely decorated with a Boteh motif (the ancient symbol of the seed or flame) repeated with geometric precision, creating a harmonious and scholarly visual rhythm.

The design is masterfully balanced by brick-red spandrels (corners), which frame the light field, adding depth and warmth to the composition. The main border in midnight blue provides a perfect chromatic contrast: it is richly filled with multicolored floral motifs (rosettes and stylized leaves) that stand out like precious gems thanks to the superior quality of the natural vegetable dyes. The wool quality is typical of the finest Farahans: exceptionally fine, lustrous wool that provides the pile with a silky texture and outstanding detail definition.
