Rug Description

This is a Khamseh gallery size rug from southwest Persia and it was woven circa 1900. The size of the rug is unique and was certainly woven for a special reason such as a wedding or celebration. The rug has five traditional Khamseh medallions and the background of the field is decorated with the traditional geometric double sided arrow motifs. The yellow saffron border with alternating bird motifs is another unique feature of this rug because using saffron as a dye was very expensive and shows how important this piece was to the weaver. This rug has been woven on an all wool foundation with 100% wool pile.


At Mollaian srl we try to do our best, giving a new life to some of antique rugs with minor problems, that may have affected by age. So, apart from what is visible on the presented photos, it should be noted that the rugs are professionally cleaned, and where necessary, the Selvages/Sides and Ends/Fringes have been secured. Upon request, we can provide a complete condition report (including any retouch performed by our restoration team), if it is not already presented down below.
