Rug Description
Antique Bidjar rug, tribal manufacture, 19th century: chromatic power and executive rigor. A rare example of a Bidjar rug, hand-knotted in Western Persia during the 19th century. Renowned as the “iron rugs” for their incredible robustness, Bidjar carpets from this period represent the pinnacle of textile durability and elegance. This specific piece stands out for its tribal design of rare beauty, characterized by a geometric central medallion that strikes a powerful presence against a richly decorated field.
The quality of the wool is superb: lustrous and full-bodied hand-spun wools that provide the pile with a dense texture and a unique silky sheen. The chromatic palette, exceptionally balanced and achieved through ancient vegetable dyes, features a deep ruby red as the protagonist, harmoniously interacting with the midnight blue of the medallion. Meanwhile, touches of ivory and ochre illuminate the details of the stylized floral motifs found in the field and the corner spandrels. The main border, defined by polychrome floral motifs typical of the region, encloses the composition, bestowing a stylized and elegant rigor.
