Rug Description

Antique Persian Kashan Dabir Rug, 1920 ca. A very rare Kashan Dabir carpet of ancient manufacture in almost impossible to find dimensions. A small Kashan on an ivory background, most likely made on commission, as generally, in Dabir’s manufactures, we find dimensions of the same length but never so narrow. The background of this ancient Kashan Dabir carpet is dominated by floral motifs such as the weeping willow, a plant of very high spiritual value for the Persians and motifs of European tradition such as the “gul farang” style rose bouquet which appears on the crest of the willow fronds and in the centre, composing a sort of medallion. Despite such small dimensions, this Kashan Dabir rug has a truly surprising visual perception; the risk of making the background too crowded was skilfully avoided by the great imaginative creativity of the master Dabir, in knowing how to harmonize the spaces with dense motifs, in small-sized carpets. The violet and bright pink border perfectly sets the design in the field, making this Kashan Dabir a little jewel to be cherished with care. The state of conservation of this carpet is exceptional, soft, compact and bright wools also guarantee certainty in the setting on any type of furnishing.


At Mollaian srl we try to do our best, giving a new life to some of antique rugs with minor problems, that may have affected by age. So, apart from what is visible on the presented photos, it should be noted that the rugs are professionally cleaned, and where necessary, the Selvages/Sides and Ends/Fringes have been secured.
