Rug Description
Antique Persian Bakshaish Carpet, ca 1880. Carpets from southwestern Azerbaijan are characterized by decorative motifs that include both Persian and Caucasian decorative artistic heritage. Bakhshaish carpets are highly appreciated for their sobriety and unquestionable elegance and versatility; they can coexist with any type of furniture thanks to the soft and bright shades of the wool and decorations that are always well balanced on the surface of the carpet. In this magnificent Bakhshaish carpet, the coral red background is set by a series of finely decorated and well-alternate frames. The Herati motif on the main border has curvilinear profiles while maintaining a rigid layout in the design which stands out elegantly on the yellow ocher background. The background is dominated by three medallions with a laced profile inside which we find a stylistic variation of the Herati motif. The counter-edges are also filled with Herati motif. The shades of this carpet, made even more fascinating by the abrash and oxidation of the colors, give further balance to the entire decorative structure. This antique persian bakhshaish carpet is in excellent condition and ready to embellish and refine any type of environment.
