Rug Description

Bakhshaish carpets certainly represent an element of distinction in the fusion of technical and decorative elements belonging to both the Azerbaijani and Persian textile cultures. In this particular Bakhshaish carpet, we can appreciate a more decorative rather than “tribal” version. The background, on a coral red background, contains a very refined and elaborate central medallion. Inside, in fact, in addition to the filling motifs, we can appreciate the profile of another small medallion inside defined by the red profiles. This last medallion recalls the style of the medallions present in the carpets of the Ottoman period. The chromatic balance and the refinement of the combinations allows us to immediately recognize the very high quality of these products. The yellow ocher counter-edges and the borders with the Herati motif on a blue and sky blue background are very interesting. This Bakhshaish carpet is of considerable size and although there are some areas where the pile is worn, the carpet is intact and can also be set in its “lived” version; if you want to restore the corroded areas, our team of restorers is able to turn the carpet to its original version.


At Mollaian srl we try to do our best, giving a new life to some of antique rugs with minor problems, that may have affected by age. So, apart from what is visible on the presented photos, it should be noted that the rugs are professionally cleaned, and where necessary, the Selvages/Sides and Ends/Fringes have been secured. Upon request, we can provide a complete condition report (including any retouch performed by our restoration team), if it is not already presented down below.
