Kilim Description
Bessarabian Kilim, 260 × 182 cm, Ukrainian, circa early 20th century. This exquisite antique Bessarabian Kilim is a striking example of Ukrainian craftsmanship from the early 20th century. Handwoven using the traditional flatweave technique, this piece measures 260 × 182 cm (approximately 8.5 × 6 feet) and showcases a rare harmony of color, floral design, and folk artistry. The central field is rendered in a soothing pale blue, providing a refined backdrop for the vibrant floral motifs that bloom symmetrically throughout. The design features large stylized roses and blossoming branches in rich tones of crimson, olive green, ivory, and dusty pink, all carefully outlined in black for dramatic contrast and definition. A wide ivory border frames the composition, densely packed with matching floral elements, creating a rhythmic, almost tapestry-like visual effect. The outermost guard stripe is detailed in a bold burgundy red adorned with naïve flowerhead patterns, which enhance the overall elegance and decorative character of the kilim. Bessarabian kilims, known for their European-influenced floral designs, were traditionally woven in regions of Ukraine and Moldova. This particular example exemplifies the refined yet rustic charm of the genre, ideal for both classic and contemporary interiors. Explore our amazing collection of Kilims.
