Rug Description

Farahan rug Silk, premier Persian manufacture, late 19th century: a chromatic ecstasy of light and silk. This is a masterpiece of rare beauty—a Farahan crafted entirely in silk that transcends the conventions of classical weaving to achieve an almost painterly aesthetic. What makes this rug hypnotic is its chromatic sophistication: the violet and purple tones of the floral motifs vibrate powerfully against a “golden” and luminous field, creating a regal contrast of extraordinary depth. The composition is further enriched by touches of emerald green, powder blue, and refined brown hatching, which define the contours with the precision of a fine brush.

The luster of the silk pile is exceptional: the iridescent surface reacts to ambient light, transforming the rug into a living object that shifts tones depending on the viewing angle. The main border is an example of formal balance: a lavish interpretation of the Herati or “turtle” (Samovar) motif, rendered with millimetric finesse that frames the central field with perfect equilibrium.
