Rug Description

Museum Quality Karabakh all over design, large size fragment. XVIII century. We are faced with a real historical find of interest and museum value in the form of a fragment. This antique Karabakh carpet from the 18th century, thanks to the vividness of its colours, allows us to imagine its splendor and refinement, just by focusing on the chromatic contrasts between yellow and blue, between purple and yellow, between mustard and light blue. The design of this extraordinary large-format fragment is full-field; the motifs, despite the corrosion and wear, are clear and detailed, including various iconographies and symbols within it. In the central area, dragon motifs run lengthwise alternating with harshang motifs, interrupted by cruciform medallions inside which we find a delightful rosette in yellow ochre. The background is further enriched by star motifs. The border of this high-age Karabakh rug, evolves sinuously in a refined balance of shapes and colors, especially the light purple color and the cruciform motifs. This Karabakh rug has been professionally mounted on canvas to preserve its state of conservation. In the international market, we can barely find small portions of carpet related to this age; in this specific case, we have a very clear idea of ✓✓how these carpets were in their entirety. An antique Karabakh rug, like this one present in the Mollaian Rugs collection, deserves to be admired in a museum or jealously guarded by an important collector & connoisseur.
