Kilim Description

This Swedish kilim was woven in wool over cotton warp and weft by Karin Jonsson (KJ) between 1950 and 1970 measuring 222 × 168 cm (7′ 3″ × 5′ 6″). Kilim is a Turkish term that simply means “woven”. Historically, the former evidence of the existence of kilim dates back to the anonymous author of the well-known geographical treatise such as Hudud al-Alam (Edge of the World), written in the 10th century, and to the Persian poet Ferdowsi, which mentioned kilim in a manuscript of the beginning of the 11th century. However he birth of the kilim is far beyond historical testimony, we speak of the art of weaving already between the Neolithic and the Age of Metals. Inspired by the oldest geometric designs of oriental carpets, the decoration proposes them extremely stylized, accentuating their modern character. Soft colors and the right size make it a very suitable rug for our ambiences.
