Rug Description

Antique Persian Farahan Rug, ca 1900. A rare antique Persian Farahan decorative carpet on ivory field from the early 20th century. This antique Farahan rug has a truly elaborate and finely decorated central medallion with a variant of the herati motif joined by prominent palmettes on the sides. The definition of the design is very clear and despite the large empty area, knotted only in ivory, the architecture of the decorative composition is particularly balanced and sophisticated in its chromatic and iconographic details. At the bases of the background there are two pyramidal portions, filled with dense lattices of minute rosette motifs, chiseled with small boteh motifs that run along the entire perimeter of the background. On the oblique sides and at the tops of these pyramidal sections, there is a succession of delicious cups adorned with bunches of flowers that make up the main border in alternating shades. The knotting of this very elegant antique Persian Farahan is as fine as the quality of the wools and colors used. The state of conservation of this antique Farahan carpet is excellent and easy to place in any environment and surface. The ivory background is rare, making this antique Farahan carpet among the rarest and most desirable.
