Rug Description

Antique Persian Bakshaish Kalleh Carpet, 19th Century. Rare antique Bakhshaish carpet on an ivory background, natural wool colour. The background is dominated by a dense “harshang” motif repeated symmetrically contained by filling motifs decidedly of Caucasian and Azerbaijani origin in particular. The tones and motifs are well balanced with each other, giving this antique Bakhshaish carpet elegance and a very sophisticated character also thanks to the effect obtained from the tones and decorations present on the border. The main border, on a “coffee” colored background, emphasizes the quality of this wonderful antique Bakhshaish carpet, with traditional motifs excellently distributed in alternating colours, always offering a relaxing effect to the gaze. The smaller borders offer a further impetus before being captured by the variety of symbols that follow one another and chase each other across the entire background. A large-format antique Bakshaish carpet, suitable for satisfying classic settings, consolidating the value of the surrounding elements with a strong and at the same time delicate character. Its state of conservation is excellent.
