Rug Description

Antique Caucasian Daghestan Runner “Rug”, XIX Century. A magnificent antique Caucasian rug in Dagestan runner format. This antique Caucasian Dagestan carpet is of very fine knotting, excellent quality wool, soft and bright, the colors vivid and well preserved. The main design that makes up the internal decoration of this ancient Caucasian Dagestan carpet develops on a “lattice” decorated with small traditional motifs in an all-over version. The midnight blue background almost disappears as it accommodates the polychrome motifs inside the cartouches with a jagged profile in white and red. The main border of this antique Dagestan carpet, on an ivory background, bears star or eagle motifs in a delightful succession of colors and shades. The smaller borders with a “greek” motif are also very interesting. The state of conservation of this carpet is excellent, a rare format for a Caucasian carpet.
