Rug Description

Antique Chinese Ningxia Rug, 1900 ca. Very intriguing and unusual Chinese carpet in its decorative composition. The border bears the double T motif joined by the “swastika” motif. The dark blue background is interrupted by four rounded corners and a circular medallion in the centre, showing the motif of the clouds and the dragon, a mythical animal with open mouth, often used as “protection”. The rest of the background is finely decorated with filling motifs arranged symmetrically in ash blue color in slight contrast with the dark blue background. Very good state of conservation.
