Rug Description

This is an antique Bakhtiari from western Persia and it was woven circa 1900-1920. It has a highly unique design with three medallions and an abstract tribal geometric design. The ivory border creates color contrast against the red colored field. This rug has a rare format called Kalleh which are rugs that are twice as long as they are wide. The design of the motifs is very rare and highly unique, not many rugs have these motifs making this rug a rare example of Bakhtiari weavings.

The light brick-red field with polychrome serrated palmettes and angular leafy vine around three large floral lozenge medallions containing smaller shaped panels wit similar design. In an ivory border of multicoloured serrated palmettes and delicate leafy vine between hooked motif stripes.

Very good type seldom found in kelleh size. Colours are very well blended and design is nicely drawn. This piece has good pile and in general is in very good usable condition. Selvages rebound, well done. Ends with short fringes, secured. This rug is in overall very good condition and is ready to be used or added to any tribal collection.

At Mollaian srl we try to do our best, giving a new life to some of antique rugs with minor problems, that may have affected by age. So, apart from what is visible on the presented photos, it should be noted that the rugs are professionally cleaned, and where necessary, the Selvages/Sides and Ends/Fringes have been secured. Upon request, we can provide a complete condition report (including any retouch performed by our restoration team), if it is not already presented down below.
