Rug Description

Antique All-Over Persian Farahan Rug, 1940 ca. Ferahan is an area located north of the city Arak in western Iran. Very famous to produce high-quality carpets since the 19th century, it has retained its fame up to the present day with noteworthy productions up to the 1940s. In this particular Farahan carpet, we find one of the typical decorative expressions of carpets knotted in this area, that is, the herati design repeated all over throughout the carpet. The background, on an antique pink, appears as an outline of the very dense and elaborate herati motif that dominates the entire field. The lines and the definition of the design united by the skilful and virtuous use of colours, convey the true essence of the Persian carpet; timeless charm. The border, on an ivory background, richly decorated with floral shoot motifs, bears the herati “tortoise” motif in a cheerful chromatic alternation where the yellows stand out brightly accompanying the other colours. The state of conservation of this Persian Ferahan carpet is excellent, ready to embrace a sofa area or to host a dining or meeting table.
