Rug Description
This is a Bergama rug from western Anatolia woven during the end of the 19th century. This rug has a highly geometric design with five medallions in the field. This rug uses both geometric and floral motifs to decorate the field and borders. Many of the design elements used in this rug are variants of motifs that can be found in early Anatolian rugs.
The light rust field with small rosettes and hooked bars together with a single bold octagonal hole and floral panel in each corner around large square double hooked medallion with hooked bars, rosettes and hooked panels. In panelled border of stellar flowerhead octagons, hooked bars and rosettes between Sandy-yellow and ivory angular floral meander stripes. Outer floral and x-motif stripes. Ends with stripe kilim and fringes, original. Selvages are also original.
This rug is in overall good condition and is ready to be enjoyed in any home or added to any tribal rug collection. Very good type and sought after one market.
