Rug Description

Very Large Antique Persian Bijar (Bidjar) Carpet, 19th Century. A wonderful large format Persian Bijar (Bidjar) carpet. The motif that dominates the entire surface of the carpet is inspired by the most popular decorations in the West from the end of the 17th century to the present day. This is the “gul Farang” motif, meaning “French style” flower. This typical decoration has influenced decorations in Turkish, Armenian, Caucasian, Persian and former Soviet republics carpets often in the form of Kilims. In this antique Persian Bijar carpet, we can appreciate the modularity of the design, enriched by a choice of colors and truly sophisticated shades. The entire decoration of this antique Bijar carpet seems to remain suspended between the garlands that embrace the small bouquets. The border, of more traditional inspiration, on a coral red background, is well modulated and assorted, alternating small cartouches with palmette motifs. In this antique Persian Bijar carpet, in addition to the large format, we can appreciate the delicacy of the contrasts and the refined attention to detail. In excellent condition, this antique Persian carpet can host an important dining or meeting table, or further embellish your conversation area.
