Rug Description

Antique Prayer Silk Farahan Rug with tree of the life design 1880 ca. A magnificent silk carpet from Arak region, an area particularly fervent in the production of high quality carpets. Very famous are the carpets made with cotton warp and weft and kork wool pile, often further softened with dugh (a typical Persian yogurt-based drink). In this little masterpiece, we find very special characteristics for a Ferahan, as it is knotted completely in silk. This type of carpet, particularly appreciated in 19th and early 20th century Great Britain, was also called “gentleman carpets” due to its evident decorative and chromatic elegance. In this example, in a very rare ivory/cream background, the subject of the tree of life is the protagonist on the background. Counter edges and borders in sea blue, are embellished with small inserts in yellow and orange offering a decidedly vibrant visual perception. The small dimensions of this Ferahan in silk allow this delightful “jewel” to be placed in any type of furniture and room.
