Description
This is a semi-antique Caucasian Karabakh rug woven in the southern Caucasus during the mid-20th century circa 1947-1949 and measures 278 by 144CM in size. The design consists of three mirroring serrated hooked medallions accompanied by a variety of geometric tribal and floral motifs as well as different animals. There are also two dates 1947 and 1949 with Armenian text. The dates most likely indicate the weaving time or correlate to a special event in Armenian history. The main border is decorated with polychrome 6-sided stars that are interconnected by two lines that almost connect with each other at the apex of the oval shape they create. This rug has an array of both soft pastel colors and strong bold colors creating an extremely diverse color palette that makes this rug stand out in any setting that it will be used in. It has been preserved in overall excellent condition and is ready to be used and enjoyed.
